When selecting a model of a camera we are usually interested in possibility of adjustments to various operating conditions. Of course, more advanced models have more capabilities, simpler devices keep some parameters fixed. However, in order to be able to take full advantage of the adjustments, please refer to their technical data and user manuals. We are here discussing a number of typical settings having an impact on the quality of the image, both positive and negative. Such knowledge will help you achieve the best practical results of the camera operation. The impact of changes in camera settings will be demonstrated for ACTI cameras, but the rules apply to other types of cameras from different manufacturers.... more »

There is no all-purpose CCTV camera. The comparison below allows to choose an optimum camera for a specific application, from the wide range manufactured by ACTi. The cameras have been grouped according to resolution - megapixel, D1, VGA. Megapixel cameras are quickly gaining popularity. They set new quality standards in video monitoring, not achievable in previous systems based on analog cameras and typical DVRs. Let's compare a standard D1 camera (720 x 576 = 0.4 Mpix) and "typical megapixel" ACTi camera (1280 x 1024 = 1.3 Mpix) - the latter provides 3 times as much information. ... more »

The article is based on the resources published by British Home Office. It describes the features of CCTV system which are important for its users. With many years of experience, the Home Office has developed a set of requirements on the use of monitoring systems by the police in various investigations. To be able to effectively use the material obtained through a CCTV system, it must meet the requirements set out below, collected in four sections: {{ *Quality, *Recording, *Export, *Playback.}}... more »

How to design, install, and operate LANs used for transmission of video data (IP CCTV).
Video surveillance systems based on IP CCTV devices need adequate IP networks for transmitting video data and providing communication among the devices and computers or transcoders. IP CCTV devices send video or video and audio in the form of data stream, usually compressed in MPEG-4 (SP, ASP, AVC/H.264) or MJPEG format. Compression limits the required band. However, the quality of video and audio strongly decreases with higher compression ratios. Some applications may require full resolution (e.g. megapixel cameras) or maximum frame rate - in such cases the required bandwidth can be very wide.... more »

ACTi Corporation belongs to the leading manufacturers of monitoring equipment based on IP technology. The offer includes IP cameras, IP speed dome cameras, videoservers, video transcoders. IP cameras encode video signal to MPEG-4 data stream, which can be further transmitted within whole computer network, received and processed by any "entitled" network device. It means that the image can be viewed and recorded in any place where there is a PC connected to the network and equipped with appropriate software.... more »

IP is the acronym of Internet Protocol, the most popular protocol used for communication within any computer network or the Internet. IP camera provides at its output digital stream of data corresponding to the video information, which is being transmitted via wired or wireless IP networks, and can be viewed or recorded even in most remote locations in the network.... more »
