The Dahua NVR4108HS-8P-4KS3 is a representative of the new generation of Series 4 (S3) Lite NVRs. This 8-channel IP NVR is capable of recording video from IP cameras with up to 12 Mpix resolution. With a high input bitrate of 160 Mbps, it works perfectly with high-resolution cameras. The NVR has a built-in 8-port PoE switch for direct connection and powering of IP cameras. 1 SATA port allows the connection of hard drives with a capacity of up to 20TB. In the event of a memory overflow, automatic overwriting is triggered to prevent loss of the latest data. Built-in USB ports allow you to plug in a memory stick or external drive and copy specific sections to external storage media.

The NVR is equipped with the SMD+ intelligent motion detection function for precise filtering of objects such as people and vehicles. This function can be implemented directly on 4 channels by the NVR or supported by cameras equipped with this functionality on 6 channels.

The app for mobile devices and computers allows easy management from anywhere.

PoE (Power over Ethernet) is the name of the IEEE standard for powering network devices via a twisted pair cable while transmitting data. It is possible to power devices such as cameras, telephones, switches, access points, etc. The guaranteed distance over which power transmission is realised is 100 m. The two most popular standards are 802.03af, which guarantees a minimum of 12.95 watts for end devices, and 802.3at, which guarantees 25.5 watts.

The image from the IP camera is sent to the NVR as a data stream. In the event of a computer network failure (reduction of its bandwidth), the information is irretrievably lost, as the network does not buffer it and the camera cannot resend it. With ANR (Automatic Network Replenishment) enabled, the camera can save recordings to a memory card in the event of connectivity problems with the NVR. When the failure ceases, the recordings are automatically transferred to the recorder. In the event of an interruption in transmission, the operator does not have to take any action in order to have a complete recording on the recorder. To use it, you must also have a Dahua IP camera equipped with a memory card slot and a microSD card.

Compression is a very important parameter proving the device advancement. The better the compression, the lower the bandwidth requirement with the same subjective quality. H.265 (HEVC - High Efficiency Video Coding) is currently the most efficient compression method. Compared to its predecessor (H.264), it reduces the data stream and the demand for disk capacity by half. Therefore, hard drives with a halved capacity can be used, or recordings can be stored for twice as long. Its improved version H.265+ has been optimized for use in CCTV monitoring systems. They allow for further reduction of data streams.

SmartPSS Lite (Smart Professional Surveillance System Lite) is an easy-to-use, free software for operating and managing Dahua products on a Windows and macOS computer. The software allows to conveniently carry out remote system configuration and then conduct live monitoring. Its intuitive and functional interface also allows you to view and download recordings, intelligently search, receive alarm events, two-way audio transmission, visualise the system on an e-map or record to your computer's hard drive.

DMSS is an application that enables the operation and management of Dahua products on Android and iOS mobile devices. It provides a wide range of surveillance and basic configuration options - live viewing (including multiple channels simultaneously), PTZ control, digital zoom, eavesdropping, playback of archive recordings and handling of alarm notifications. The app allows connectivity via IP addresses and via P2P cloud.
