Thanks to the new Sony ExView HAD CCD II sensor and Sony Effio-E DSP the camera provides very high video resolution, very good S/N ratio, perfect reproduction of colors.
The Sony CCD ExView II image sensor is a further improvement of the technological solutions used in Super HAD CCD II. The new features include larger number of pixels, better saturation of colors (especially in low-light conditions), and a greater sensitivity in both visible light and infrared spectrum (800 - 900 nm).

The application of Sony Effio-E digital signal processor (DSP) extends the possibilities of image processing and in combination with the advanced image sensor used in the camera allows to achieve horizontal video resolution of 650 TVL. The processor also allows to use advanced video processing features and OSD, define motion detection zones and privacy masks.
High resolution of the video allows to enlarge a part of the image without significant loss of quality; additionally, 2D - NR (noise reduction) minimizes blur effects, saving sharp edges of objects.
Good quality of an enlarged part of the image

Image quality in various lighting is improved by ATR (Adaptive Tone Reproduction) function which lowers the contrast between the darkest and brightest areas and allows to see details in the both parts of the image.

When installing the camera it is very important to set its parameters in real conditions, in which the camera will work. It is essential for taking full advantage of all the advanced features provided by the new technology.
The camera has a very useful NightVision function. When activated, the camera operating in low light conditions switches to B/W mode. It eliminates the effects of "snowing" that normally occur in such conditions.

The camera also incorporates mechanically switching IR cut filter (ICR). It allows to use IR illuminators, e.g. from the professional Redbeam series.
SN-BXC5930CDN camera can cooperate with auto iris (AI) lens with DC or video control. When choosing such a camera, one should provide an upper-class lens which will not deteriorate the parameters of the camera-lens set. For this camera we recommend high quality glass lenses fromTokina or UltiEye. Employing the Day/Night function of the camera, the user should also choose a lens marked "Day/Night" (specially designed for infrared observations).

The main functions:
  • IRC - mechanically switching IR filter. The filter is used in Day-Night cameras. In color mode the filter cuts IR spectrum that would distort actual colors.
  • OSD - displays the camera menu on a display screen, eliminating the need to implement a lot of switches/potentiometers on the rear panel of the camera.
  • ATW (Auto Tracing White Balance) - continuously adjusts camera color balance in accordance with any change in color temperature, allowing the camera to capture color as seen by the human eye.
  • AWB (Auto White Balance) - white color is automatically detected and used for camera color balance. It is suitable for environments with small changes of color temperature, the other ones require to use the above listed ATW function .
  • Anti-CR (Anti-Color Rolling) - reduction of rotating color changes caused by flickering sources of light (e.g. fluorescent lamps), which cannot be eliminated by external synchronization with the power network (usually due to powering the camera with DC power source).
  • AWC (Auto White Color/Circuit) - adjustment of the white balance to a "standard" white area/object. The calibration should be repeated when the lighting conditions have been changed.
  • AGC (Automatic Gain Control) - maintains a constant output level, increasing the signal to noise ratio. The picture is more clear but less natural. Without this function (AGC OFF) the image is generally more natural, but more grainy.
  • EE/AI (Electronic Shutter) - in EE mode it adapts the exposure time to the light intensity. In AI mode, the exposure time is constant (1/60 or 1/50 s) and level of incident light intensity is regulated by auto-iris lens (Auto Iris).
  • BLC (Backlight Compensation) - automatically adjusts the level of bright light in order to provide more detail in dark areas. A good example is the image a human's face in the background of the sun shining from behind.
  • HLC (High Light Compensation) - masks extremely bright areas such as car headlights.
  • Privacy zones - masking areas that should be not visible.
  • AES (Auto Electronic Shutter) - used to adjust the the exposure time to the light intensity (mostly with lens without AI function).
  • DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) - circuit and/or algorithm which reduces noise, thus providing a higher signal to noise ratio. 3D DNR compares subsequent image frames. If, as a result of this analysis, it finds a difference between the images resulting from noise, it removes the very small grains, replacing them with average values.
  • Gamma correction - feature which allows for nonlinear scaling of the brightness levels of the image to the characteristics of the display and human eye. The original signal level is linearly dependent on the intensity of the incident light, while the impression of brightness perceived by the eye is proportional to the logarithm of the light intensity of the display (luminance).
The camera uses OSD menu. Adjustment of all parameters of the camera image is performed by using buttons on the back panel. Due to multiple functions and settings, the very practical feature is setup memory, allowing to save several options, even before the final calibration at the camera site. The camera menu is quite extensive but user-friendly, with easy and intuitive navigation.
Overview of the basic menu settings
The installer/user can change virtually every parameter of this camera, ranging from the video standard, through such parameters like AWB, ES, BLC, Gamma, ..., to the settings connected with WD (Wide Dynamic) and Day/Night function (delay time, thresholds).

8-pin I/O socket in the rear part of the camera is used to control some functions of the camera and to trigger external devices.
I/O socket pinout
Pinout description (wire colors of additional cable, H& L - logical levels):

Pins 1 (black), 2 (brown), 3 (orange): not used;
Pin 4 (blue): information on mode of work (H - color, L - B/W) - the levels can be used for control of an additional IR illuminator (the camera switches to B/W mode in low light);
Pin 5 (green): alarm output - motion detection (H - no motion, L - motion) - can cooperate with alarm input in a DVR or with an independent alarm system;
Pin 6 (yellow): ground
Pin 7 (white): external control of mode of work (H - B/W, L - color) - possibility to adjust mode of work to specific requirements;
Pin 8 (red): 3.3 VDC output.
The cameras are indispensable in all places where there is a high probability of overexposure in the case of using popular cameras. Typical applications include night observation of roads and streets, poorly-lighted parking lots, main gateways. The implemented "Mirror" function (mirror image) is often very useful in such applications.
The images on the left of the pairs below were captured with a standard CCTV camera. On the right there are images from the camera with Sony ExView HAD CCD II sensor. It is clear that the individual processing of the signal from each pixel allows to obtain optimal images - without overexposure or dark areas. The images have smooth gradation of tones thus can provide a wealth of information. The SN-BXC5930CDN camera can be used in places where there is a need for the highest quality images
