HDMI cables are used for data transmission between high definition multimedia source devices and players (flat screens, HD projectors etc). The main characteristics include HDMI specification (version) and cross-section of the conductors (usually in AWG gauge system).
The HDMI specification defines, among other things, the maximum pixel clock rate. Currently, most of the equipment used supports the version 1.3, with data transfer rates up to 10 Gb/s. The actual version of the HDMI interface of a device should be provided in its specifications.
Along with the growing popularity of high-definition video, there is an increased demand for HDMI cables ver. 1.4, capable of transmitting 3D HD video and supporting Internet connectivity.
Additional features of the HDMI 1.4 include:
- HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC)
Ethernet channel allows for quick, two-way communication between the Internet and HDMI devices. The connected devices can send and receive data at speeds up to 100 Mb/s. With this solution, there is no need for separate Ethernet cable to each HDMI device, it is enough to connect only one device, usually the monitor/television.

- Audio Return Channel
HDMI 1.4 adds return audio channel, so that it limits the number of cables connected to TVs. When the TV has a built-in DVB-S receiver, DVD etc., the digital audio signal will be sent to an external audio receiver/amplifier via the HDMI cable.

- Support for 3D imaging
- The new standard supports several 3D formats, including a common HDMI platform. It enables the viewing of 3D stereoscopic images from game consoles and other sources of 3D content.

- Expanded Support for Color Spaces
HDMI 1.4 supports color scheme specifically designed for digital cameras, allowing more accurate color rendition when viewing digital photos. It supports sYCC601, Adobe (R) RGB and Adobe (R) YCC601.

- 4K resolution
- HDMI 1.4 specification supports video transmission with horizontal resolution of about 4000 pixels. With vertical resolution of about 2000pixels (lines), it can provide ca. 4x more pixels than 1080p FHD.

- Type D micro connector
The new HDMI specification shrinks the connector size to about 50% of currently used, so it can be easily employed for video transmission from cellular phones or other mobile devices..

An important parameter describing each wire is AWG (American wire gauge, also known as Brown & Sharpe wire gauge). The lower the gauge, the thicker the wire.
AWG | Diameter [mm] |
20 | 0.812 |
21 | 0.723 |
22 | 0.644 |
23 | 0.573 |
24 | 0.511 |
25 | 0.455 |
26 | 0.405 |
27 | 0.361 |
28 | 0.321 |
29 | 0.286 |
30 | 0.255 |
- Short HDMI cables should have wires with AWG not higher than 30.
- Long HDMI cables (10-15 m) should have wires with AWG not higher than 26.
- Very long HDMI cables (20 m) should have wires with AWG not higher than 24.
HDMI switchers

HDMI switcher allows the user to connect multiple high-definition devices to a TV equipped with insufficient number of HDMI inputs. There are no problems with simultaneous connection of a satellite receiver, DVD player, PC or a game console. Even when the TV has sufficient number of HDMI inputs, it may be more elegant to connect only one HDMI cable for easy installation on a wall with the use of LCD/plasma mount. It really improves the appearance of the TV suspended on the wall.

Application diagram
HDMI splitters

HDMI splitter enables the user to connect several modern TV sets equipped with HDMI inputs to one source of high-definition signal. . Splitters are ideal for demonstration of HD televisions and other equipment in stores, for offer presentation in superstores etc., as well as for conference rooms - to split the signal from the computer to several monitors. For a greater number of monitors (ten or so), HDMI splitters are usually connected in a cascade.

HDMI switcher-splitter

HDMI switcher-splitter enables the user to connect several modern TV sets equipped with HDMI inputs to 2 (or more) sources of high-definition signals. The user selects the current source. Such a device is ideal for demonstration of HD televisions and other equipment in stores, for offer presentation in superstores etc., as well as for conference rooms to split the signal from the computer to several monitors. For a greater number of monitors, the device usually cooperates with splitters connected in a cascade.

We offer:
- Signal-HD HDMI Switcher-Splitter 2x4 H3324
HDMI extenders

Advantageous features of using an HDMI extender over CAT5e cable:
- possibility of utilizing ready-to-use structured cabling,
- cost effectiveness (due to higher cost of HDMI cable and necessity of using HDMI repeater)
- ease if installation (due to thinner and more flexible cable),
- low cost of the left cable in the case of temporary installations where the cable cannot be taken away.
HDMI extender is perfect device for connecting remote (up to 50 m) HD source like sat receiver, Blu-ray player, PC, game console etc. to HD-enabled TV/monitor/projector. It requires to use only one, comparatively thin cable, which makes it easy to hide it, e.g. when installing the TV/monitor on LCD/plasma mount.

HDMI wall outlets
![]() | ![]() |
HDMI wall outlet (socket) is an aesthetic piece of equipment to run HDMI cable in the wall.

Example application of HDMI outlets
In the diagram above, one of the HDMI outlets is placed on the wall opposite the TV. The HDMI outlet is connected via HDMI cable concealed in walls with another (double) HDMI outlet behind the TV placed on a LCD/plasma mount. The second socket of the double outlet connects via a shorter cable in the wall with the third HDMI outlet located close to another source of HD signal. The installation really improves the appearance of the TV suspended on the wall (the short cable behind the TV is practically not visible).
