Details

The new family of Signal multiswitches enables the implementation of antenna systems for reception of satellite and terrestrial TV and radio signals in single-family houses as well as small residential and office buildings. The multiswitches are designed to work indoors. Due to star topology, all cables deployed to outlets in the antenna system go from a central node (from a single multiswitch or a group of them). A very high isolation among outputs eliminates the risk of crosstalk between bands and polarizations. The built-in cable characteristics equalization function can compensate the influence of cable attenuation that increases with frequency and cable length.
The switch is equipped with a passive terrestrial TV path, so it is recommended to use antenna preamplifier or amplifier, which will compensate for the attenuation of the multiswitch (17 dB) and passive elements in the installation (cable, outlets, connectors) in the terrestrial TV path. The selection of the amplifier should also take into account the signal level from the transmitter (power and suspension height of the transmitter, distance to the reception point, gain of the antenna, terrain between the transmitter and receiver). An up-to-date list of transmitters can be found at Data of terrestrial TV transmitters in Poland.
The multiswitch is equipped with a 12 V switch in the antenna path. In order to power the amplifier, the switch should be set to the "On" position. If a self-powered amplifier is used, e.g. AWS 1/1 F B1216 (with gain control), leave the switch in the "Off" position.
Switching on the voltage in the terrestrial antenna path is done by moving the switch upwards
The both voltage indicators, in the power supply unit (PSU) and in the multiswitch, should continuously shine.
If, after connecting the terrestrial antenna and switching on the power supply, the diodes on the feeder and the multiswitch blink, this indicates a short circuit in the terrestrial antenna path. This can be caused by switching on the power supply in the terrestrial path at the antenna without an amplifier, or by a bad fitting of the connectors (short circuit between the central conductor and the cable shield braid). Immediately switch off the power and remove the cause.
The flashing of the power supply diode is caused by switching on the power supply in the ground path at the antenna without an amplifier or by a bad fitting of the connectors (short circuit between the central conductor and the cable shield braid). Immediately switch off the power and remove the cause.
The concept of passive terrestrial path with power supply option has some advantages:
  • minimizing installation costs in the case of good signal levels
  • independent choice of optimal amplifier (e.g. with independent gain adjustments in VHF and UHF bands, possibility to locate it directly in the antenna box or close to the antenna)
  • no need for an additional power supply
The device distributes signals from one satellite as well as terrestrial TV and FM radio to a maximum of twelve outlets. It can therefore be connected to twelve single-tuner satellite receivers. If the receiver has a PVR, two outputs of the multiswitch have to be reserved for its needs. Unused outputs of the multiswitch should be loaded with 75 Ohm resistor R66205.
For multi-family buildings, designed for building large SMATV/MATV systems, DIPOL offers multiswitch solutions of MR-5xx, MV-5xx, MR-9xx and MV-9xx series from TERRA. Excellent workmanship, stability of parameters and very low failure rate make these multiswitches recommendable even for the most demanding customers.
