Many antennas protect in a way the cooperating RF equipment (usually transceivers, like APs) against surges caused by lightning discharges. The protection is provided by the construction of the antennas, which ensures short-circuit effect in a case when the frequency of the signal is outside the working band. However, it does not guarantee full security in situation of direct stroke. Additional measures are needed, one of the best solutions is use of higher mast that will be sticking out well above the upper edge of the antenna. Of course, the mast or its base has to be properly grounded, by connecting e.g. to the main grounding system of the building.
The electric charge will be carried directly to the ground. But in the case of strong strokes even then the overvoltages induced in the signal path may cause damages of the equipment. The solution is provided by dedicated lightning protectors like the offered device. It can be used for protecting any RF devices working within 2.3 to 2.6 GHz. The protector has to be installed on the RF cable between AP and the antenna. The device itself must definitely be grounded via the clamp and specified copper wire.
