Details
ULTIMODE optical modules of the ULTIMODE series compliant with the SFP standard (Small Form-factor Pluggable) are modules that convert an electrical signal into a fibre optic signal. ULTIMODE SFP-011M module cooperates with two multimode optical fibers (duplex transmission), transmitting the signal at a speed of 155 Mb/s. The maximum transmission distance depends on the type of optical fibre used. For 50/128 μm multimode fibre, the maximum transmission is up to 500 m, while for 62.5/128 μm multimode fibre the maximum transmission distance is 300 m.
SFP optical modules of ULTIMODE series used for "duplex" transmission cooperate with optical fibres terminated with LC connectors. The main advantage of LC connectors is their small size, so they can be used in areas with high density of switching fields. In addition, they are equipped with a snap-lock system to prevent accidental connector removal.
The ULTIMODE modules cooperate with media converters and majority of switches and routers with SFP slots (also with CISCO equipment) compatible with IEEE 802.3u 100Base-FX standard.
The use of media converters with the possibility of exchanging SFP modules is particularly advantageous when it comes to network configuration changes. Instead of replacing the entire unit/s, it is sufficient to exchange the SFP transceiver/s.
