Details
The AI-5 is the entry-level model in a wide range of splicers from manufacturer Signal Fire. The company has been renowned for many years in many markets, including Europe, where it dominates the budget splicers sector. This model allows for efficient fibre optic connections in video surveillance, automation or fibre optic local area networks. It is designed for occasional splicing. The unit has all the features necessary to realise reliable splices with low attenuation. 4 motors and an optical system with 300-fold magnification allow precise positioning of fibres. The minimum splicing time is 8 seconds and the minimum protective sleeve splicing time, is 18 seconds. The AI-5 splicer has a 5-inch TFT screen where the process and splicing effects can be observed in detail.

Universal fibre holders ensure comfort and speed of work - 250 μm, 900 μm fibre in a tight and loose tube as well as patchcord and/or DROP cables can be laid. The splicer offers various splicing programmes and an Auto mode, which works well in most situations.
The lithium battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh allows up to 160 splices to be performed. It has an LED charge indicator and a power connector through which it can also be charged when not in the welder. Fibre positioning is carried out by to the cladding or to the core. However, it should be borne in mind that the lack of motors responsible for autofocus means that the positioning method to the core may be slightly less precise than with splicers equipped with 6 motors (L5875, L5877). The splicer is capable of splicing all common single mode and multi-mode fibre standards.


Configuration is carried out using a phone and the Signalfire2 app available on both Android (Google Play) and iOS (App Store). After an initial set-up covering aspects such as positioning method, type of fibre to be spliced and heating time of the protective sleeve, the use of the phone and app in daily use is only necessary if arc calibration is desired.
By using the app, the installer has access and the ability to export to an *xls file the splicing history. The machine stores data of 1,000 splices, data on subsequent splices can be stored in the cloud provided the user registers an account with Signalfire2.
Creating an account in the app allows the activation of further electrode sets (this should be done every 3,000 splices) and gives access to smart management functions for a splcing machine or groups of machines. These functions include, for example, th splicer will need to be unlocked - or for a certain number of splicing cycles. Other features allow the user to be forced to scan a QR code (they must also have an account with the SignalFire2 app) visible on the start screen when switching on the splicer. This allows the administrator to track when, where and by whom the machine is being used.
For Signal Fire AI-5 splicers from official distribution, DIPOL provides a 3-year warranty. Located in Kraków, the authorised service centre has qualified personnel and a stock of spare parts for all models.
The AI-5 is equipped with LEDlamp that can help illuminate the table on which splicing is being performed.
