Survey on interest in digital satellite platforms in Poland

We present the findings of the survey conducted among installation companies at the beginning of August 2009. The results show that the interest in digital satellite platforms and FTA receivers has been a little lower. For the fourth time the leader is Polsat.
This year, according to assessments of installation companies, we see a decreasing interest in satellite installations.

There were 35 companies taking part in this survey.
Our commentary

The opinions of installation companies are especially interesting this year. Is it really a crisis? If so, how is it deep and how does it influence television market?

Consumer electronic market in Poland (the interest in digital satellite platforms) has not changed much since last year.
Installations companies noticed only slight decrease in the demand for Polsat, Cyfra+, and "n" platforms.
As many of them declared increased interest in TnK receivers (prepaid TV - not included in the survey), we can generally say that the market is still going strong.

We were also interesting in opinions on antenna installations, the market segment that is directly connected with building investments.
This segment of consumer market is considered to be positive in the case of one-family homes.
Compared to the previous year, the interest in installations in multi-family buildings has significantly decreased. Reduced demand for new apartments, customers waiting for lower prices - caused that many investors refrained from finishing buildings (antenna systems are usually installed in the final stage of the investment).

There is a strong decrease in institutional market, which is related both to the lower operating costs and investments subsidized by the state and to the slowdown in the pace of construction of office buildings.

The graphs with the results of the last few years clearly show the convergence of the results of the survey with the periods of prosperity and depression. The results from August last year indicated signs of a crisis much earlier than it entered public consciousness.

Remarks:

Generally, the market seems to be saturated.

It applies to all digital satellite platforms (with an exception of prepaid TnK - limited offer of TVN/Platform n).

FTA receivers: very low figures. A chance can be launch of TVP platform (Polish public TV).

Currently most customers buy TnK receivers (for prepaid TV).
