Details
The DSM-31 R10230 meter is a versatile device designed for antenna installers. Due to the ease of use it can be also recommended to anyone wishing to install SAT/terrestrial antenna on their own. The meter is used to align satellite dishes and terrestrial TV antennas, and to identify coaxial cables. Additionally, the device measures line voltage and current. With the use of the included audio combiner, the user can identify any satellite.
The meter has three main modes:
- SAT1 - broadband measurement of satellite signal level (analog, DVB-S, DVB-S2),
- TER. TV - broadband measurement of terrestrial signal level (460-860 MHz: analog TV, DVB-T),
- CABLE ID - identification of up to 8 different coaxial cables.
"SAT1"
Broadband measurement of satellite signal level - analog TV, DVB-S, DVB-S2
- PEAK HOLD - holds maximum value.
- BEEP - the loudness increases with signal level.
- Measurement of the line voltage with 0.1 V accuracy. A very useful feature that allows for assessment of the voltages for both polarizations. Voltage drops on the cable, connectors and multiswitch may result in too low voltage at the LNB that does not switch on the upper band.
- Measurement of the line current with 1 mA accuracy gives information whether the connections have been made properly and the LNB and other devices fed through the line (amplifiers, combiners, positioners etc.) operate in a proper way.
- V / H, 22 kHz tone, and Lo / Hi indications.
- After injecting audio signal from the receiver's audio output to the RF path (using the included combiner SA1) and setting a known transponder from the required satellite, the installer can verify the correctness of the antenna alignment - just hearing the sound of the channel.
- SAT1 FINE mode provides ultimate sensitivity which is necessary for precise final alignment of the dish. This function is usually used when the installer finishes the job by screwing down the bolts.
"TER. TV"
Broadband measurement of satellite signal level (460...860 MHz) - analog TV, DVB-T, DVB-T2.
- PEAK HOLD - holds maximum value.
- Measurement of the line voltage/current with 0.1V/1mA accuracy gives information whether the connections have been made properly and the devices fed through the line (amplifiers, combiners, positioners etc.) operate in a proper way.
- FINE mode activates the built-in amplifier (to be used with low signal levels).
"CABLE ID"
In this mode the user can identify coaxial cables, employing the included four connectors with labels. Additionally, the meter detects wire breaks and short circuits.
In SAT mode, the TUNER input has to be connected to a suitable power source for the LNB (usually a satellite receiver, or a power supply /battery). In TER.TV mode the meter does not provide power supply to an amplifier. So, when the antenna system employs an amplifier/preamplifier, the TUNER input has to be connected to a suitable power source as well. The circuitry of the meter is powered from 9 V battery. The battery condition is shown by the LCD display.
