TP-Link TL-WR542G 54Mbps is a wireless router that comprises router, firewall, and access point. The main applications include small and medium-size businesses, one-family houses and apartments. TP-Link TL-WR542G provides a quick and convenient way of building wired and wireless network based on one external broadband service. The network, consisting of a number of computers, is additionally protected by firewall.
TP-Link TL-WR542G has many possibilities for securing the network:
  • SSID broadcast disable function, limiting the stations to those which use the unique identifier
  • 64/128/152-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK and TKIP/AES encryption.
The distinctive feature of the TL-WR542G wireless router is implementation of "eXtended Range" technology developed by TP-LINK company. EXtended Range allows 2 - 3 times (802.11b) or even 4 - 9 times (802.11g) greater range of operation in comparison with similar regular devices, ensuring full compatibility with these standards.
TL-WR542G ensures advanced access control and NAT, its DHCP server supports static assignment of IP addresses. It also enables supporting virtual servers, DMZ zone, remote logging and management.
Other functions that improve security:
  • access control based on MAC addresses
  • IP, domain and MAC filtering
  • support of UPnP, Dynamic DNS, static routing, VPN pass-through
  • statistics of the traffic generated by computers in the network
  • ICMP-FLOOD, UDP-FLOOD, TCP-SYN-FLOOD filters
  • blockade of ping requests for WAN and LAN interfaces
  • possibility of firmware upgrade
